The horological feat incorporating several astronomical and astrological complications could take years to complete. The finished product will surpass Vacheron’s most expensive and complicated watch to date, the limited edition double-faced Tour de l’Ile (above) created for the company’s 250th anniversary in 2005. Only seven pieces were produced at $1.5 million each.

The complications are expected to include a perpetual calendar and leap year, star chart, celestial annual calendar, tourbillon regulator, sunrise and sunset indication, perpetual time equation, phases and age of the moon, substantial power reserve, multiple time zones and day-night indication, among others. The anonymous collector who commissioned the $6.5 million watch is following in the footsteps of New York banker Henry Graves, Jr., who commissioned Patek-Philippe to create the world’s most complicated pocket watch in 1932. Dubbed the Supercomplication, the yellow gold timepiece sold at Sotheby’s in 1999 for a record-breaking $11 million and remains something of a holy grail for watch collectors.

Latest Features in Mobile Phones

<img $r="true" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Dm4hZMKvb08/StHiENy1ZGI/AAAAAAAAAFE/_KWG6etM4vE/s320/latest-mobiles.jpg" />

Mobile phones have revolutionized communication. The visitor’s center will also offer private indoor and outdoor facilities for meetings, special events and weddings.

Grand Canyon West is located approximately 120 miles east of Las Vegas, Nev., and 72 miles northwest of Kingman, Ariz. Attractions available at Grand Canyon West include The Indian Village with authentic dwellings, The Hualapai Market, and The Hualapai Ranch, a western town with horseback and wagon rides. Grand Canyon West is the only location throughout the entire Grand Canyon where visitors can access the river and water recreation activities at the bottom of the canyon via helicopter tours. In addition to boat tours on the river, Hummer tours are available along the rim of the canyon and through private areas that are otherwise inaccessible to the public. There are more than 30 tour and transportation companies that service Grand Canyon West from Las Vegas, Phoenix and Sedona by airplane, helicopter, coach, SUV, and Hummer. In addition, Park & Ride services are available from Dolan Springs, Ariz., a one-hour drive from Las Vegas. The Hualapai Tribe, consisting of approximately 2,000 Hualapai members, owns nearly one million acres of land throughout the Grand Canyon’s western rim. The capitol of the Hualapai Reservation is Peach Springs, Ariz.

Palm Al-Jumerah

<img $r="true" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Dm4hZMKvb08/StHgPA24oLI/AAAAAAAAAEs/jt_c23cIrZI/s320/palm_jumeirah_resort_dubai.jpg" />

Breaking property records is one thing, but when the property happens to be in Dubai, it’s another ball game entirely.

The AED contract for the construction of the spectacular 62 storey tall Trump International Hotel & Tower on Palm Jumeirah was announced earlier this month and with pre-sales of some properties fetching as much as $3000USD.

Real estate developer Nakheel and the Trump Organization expect that the tower’s exclusive penthouse will break property records in Dubai.

The 270 meter tall design which features two towers that merge at the 40th floor will include 378 hotel rooms and suites, 385 condominiums, 12 townhouses, 45,000 square feet of retail and 60,000 square feet of office space along with a private beach and super-marina.

Public sales of the residences began on June 23 and Donald J. Think again. Paul Moller, the guy who brought us the much-hyped but never-built SkyCar, is hopping on the green bandwagon with a sexed-up gas-electric aero-car based on the Ferrari 599 GTB.

Moller's flying Ferrari, if it comes to fruition, could carry you 75 miles in the air and 150 miles on the ground, with 40 miles of that coming from the batteries. Moller says the Autovolantor will work just like a plug-in hybrid until you get sick of sitting in traffic, at which point you can take off vertically and fly at speeds reaching 150 mph -- 55 mph slower than an unmolested 599 is capable -- for as long as 15 minutes. So what's the inspiration for the Autovolantor? Was it the culmination of a lifelong dream to combine a super-exotic sports car with the thrill of flight? Not quite.

We had a Russian billionaire come to us complaining that he was sick of sitting in Moscow traffic," Paul Moller told us. "He gave us money and told us to build a car that flies." That part makes sense -- sort of -- but doesn't explain why Moller chose a $300,000 Italian exotic instead of, say, a Ford Focus. Moller says it all came down to what's practical. "We must have tested 100 different cars," he explains. "But the Ferrari's long hood was really the best choice when it came time to make room for the fans."

The Autovolnator uses eight fans just like the ones that power the SkyCar Moller's been working on forever. That craft, billed as a vertical takeoff and landing vehicle (VTOL) and once offered for sale by Neiman-Marcus for $3.5 million, could hover up to 10 feet off the ground using ducted fans to provide lift and propulsion. "Really, we're just taking the SkyCar and morphing it into a different shape," Moller says of the Autovolantor. "That's why we were able to get the design done in about five months."

Moller says he's performed wind tunnel and stability analysis tests on a model (which looks to us like a Revell model kit with wings tacked on) and the results "predict good all-around performance," according to the Sacramento Business Journal. But that's as far as the project's gone. The Russian businessman closed his wallet when he learned a prototype would cost about $5 million. "We would love to be able to build a prototype, but we're not going to be able to on our own nickel," Bruce Calkin, company general manager, told the Journal. Should the Russian reconsider, Moller tells us it wouldn't take that long to start testing a real vehicle.

Don't hold your breath waiting for your hybrid flying car. Even if there was a demand for such a vehicle, Moller says the Department of Transportation would never give it a thumbs up. "It would be an interesting process to see if we could make it satisfy the DOT," he says. For now, it looks like the Autovolantor will remain little more than a technical paper (.pdf), a scale model and a really bad Photoshop rendering. But Moller notes, "You have to assume there are other millionaires there sitting in traffic. Maybe some of them would want one

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://great-technologyworld.blogspot.com/2009/10/its-car-its-plane-and-its-hybrid.html' title='It's a Car. In the picture you can see the HDR-CX model, Sony’s first flash-based HD camcorder. Sony proclaims this model as “the smallest and lightest AVCHD HD camcorder” available now on the market. It can record up to 30 minutes of high quality 1080i video on its 4 GB Pro Duo Memory Stick. You can buy it for 1200$, which is a definite competitor price for Panasonic and their line of HDC cameras.
The other models Sony released are SR5 and SR7. Both cameras provide with a 2.7 inch LCD screen on which you can admire the videos you are taking. You can also look at a thing from a closer angle from now on, thanks to their 10x optical zoom. The SR5 has memory of 40 GB and can shoot up to five hours of 1080i HD AVCHD video. In this chapter, the SR7 gives it a lesson with its 60 GB of internal memory and the ability of shooting up to 14 hours of 1080i video. You can buy the SR5 model for 1100$ and the SR& for 1400$.

Dell Joins ‘Kitchen PC’ Trend With Touchscreen Desktop

<img $r="true" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Dm4hZMKvb08/Ss8ecwox5lI/AAAAAAAAADE/EzeJUIpP2R0/s320/dell_studio_one_19.jpg" />

Do you want a PC in your kitchen? No? Are you sure? How about now?

PC manufacturers seem convinced that you do — at least, that would explain the sudden crop of stylish, lightweight home desktops with touchscreens. Dell is the latest PC maker to introduce computer in this category, with a new product called Studio One 19 that targets home users who want a relatively lightweight machine for tasks such web surfing, basic multimedia and notes.

"You can watch HD content, play with your photos, surf the internet or do your taxes on a machine that is full featured," says John New, a marketing executive at Dell.

Dell’s latest offering follows similar products from HP and Asus. HP has had the TouchSmart PC, which has been available for a year and a half, while Asus started offering its Eee Top touchscreen desktop earlier this year.

The Studio One 19 desktop is currently available in Japan and is expected to start retailing in the U.S. in a few weeks.

But unlike its rivals, such as Asus’ 1.6 GHZ Atom processor-based touchscreen desktop, the Studio One 19 comes with enough power to keep most people happy. The Studio One 19 PC allows users to choose between Intel’s Celeron, Dual Core Celeron, Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad Core processors for their machine. It also allows users to choose between Nvidia’s GeForce 9200 or 9400 graphics, up to 4GB of memory, 750 GB of hard disk drive, six USB ports, web camera and optional Blu-ray disc player.

The idea to give customers the kind of flexbility and customization that they are used to while buying a Dell machine, while offering them an innovative design, says New.

The most eye-catching thing about the Studio One 19 desktop is the use of fabric as a material in PC design. The Studio One 19 will come with fabric frames in different colors including blue, black, red and pink.

The desktop is priced at $700 for a non-touchscreen model and at $800 for a touchscreen version. That’s more expensive than the $500 Asus Eee Top but Dell is betting there’s more bang for the buck here.

http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/tag/pcs/

Dell Vostro 320 All-in-One Desktop Launched

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; It a trick that calls for a good alchemist. So say hello to German company, Gaiser High End PCs. Gaiser offers bespoke PCs dipped in 24-carat gold for the bling-bling crowd.

The company’s Tricolor Gold PC, for instance, offer a choice of processors ranging from Intel Atom to Core 2 Duo, solid state drives and Blu-ray player but those are pedestrian details. The real value is in the use of white and yellow gold plating and crystals to create designs that push the price of the PC to a whopping €21,500 or $30,552.

Gaiser does have cheaper models but still prices start around $7,800. The gold-leaf and crystal motifs on its PCs are beautiful but you have to wonder, with the current economic environment, aren’t even the ultra-rich hurting?

http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/tag/pcs/

Sony's black Vaio CR: nice...

<img $r="true" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Dm4hZMKvb08/Ss8cZJVKtII/AAAAAAAAACk/uTsrji71498/s320/sony_vaio_cr_1.jpg" />

Sony's black Vaio CR: nice...

There's a matt black model too, which is actually quite tasty, I'd say, though the TOYboy expressed a preference for the red Vaio while emptying a bottle of Wirra Wirra Church Block over the weekend.

Get past the guff, and the five models have solid specifications: they all have a 14.1in, 1280 x 800 widescreen display and 802.11n next-gen Wi-Fi. That breakthrough could lead the company to produce hard drives with storage capacities of up to 1.2TB on a two-platter, 2.5-in. drive as soon as 2010, noted Joel Hagberg, vice president of business development at Fujitsu Computer Products of America, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tokyo-based Fujitsu Ltd.

The construction of ideally ordered alumina nanohole patterned media was done through a collaboration between Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Yamagata Fujitsu Ltd. and Kanagawa Academy of Science and Technology. The achievement is published in the July online version of Applied Physics Letters.

"[Fujitsu's achievement] allows especially the smaller form factors to reach pretty high capacities. From a business-requirement standpoint, one advantage that brings is the opportunity to use smaller drives for applications, and smaller drives tend to use less power," remarked Rydning. "That kind of technology is definitely what's needed to get [improved storage] requirements."

http://www.fahad.com/labels/laptops.html

Samsung Pixon 12 Mobile Phone Specification and Reviews

Samsung Pixon 12 is totally touchscreen device with 12 mega pixel digital camera with 150MB in built memory and MicroSD card slot for memory expansion up to 16GB, connect with Wi-Fi networks and HSDPA mobile networks for fast internet access. The phone, which they're calling 'revolutionary' (doesn't every manufacturer?), will be showcased at next week's 3GSM World Congress, so we're sure to hear more about it, and get our mitts on it then.

The phone features a full touch screen user interface on its 2.78 inch colour display (440x240 pixel resolution), has a slide-out full QWERTY keypad, and VibeTonz technology that provides tactile feedback to the user.

They've utilised a 'drag and drop' interface allowing easier menu navigation, music play list control, and other functions. Is this sounding like the iPhone to you? Touch screens certainly seem to be the 'in thing' right now; I wonder how many more manufacturers will beat Apple to it...

Anyway, back to the Samsung. The Ultra Smart F700 features HSDPA giving a maximum data transfer speed of 7.2Mbps. This means a 4MB song could be downloaded in around 4 seconds.

The phone has a full HTML web browser, a whopping 5-megapixel camera with auto focus, Bluetooth, WAP, Java, and USB. It features microSD expansion, and measures up at 104 x 50 x 16.4mm.

No exact word on availability yet, and price will depend on who you get it with. Looks very nice though - anyone want one?

http://www.techdigest.tv/2007/02/samsung_f700_th.html

Newest portables boast powerful processors, larger screens

<img $r="true" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Dm4hZMKvb08/SsegCvWponI/AAAAAAAAABk/eW5hW6pBVX4/s320/060619_voodooEnvy_hmed_hmedium.jpg" />

Dell started selling a computer complete with an eight-speaker surround-sound package, a Bluetooth keyboard, and a 20.1-inch monitor — an impressive host of extras for any desktop system. Thing is, the XPS 2010 is a notebook, a machine that can be closed shut and carried — monitor, speakers, detachable keyboard, and all — from one place to another.

More than ever, computer makers are blurring the lines between desktops and notebooks, making the latter an attractive alternative to a hulking PC. The increasing appeal of notebooks is showing up in analysts' forecasts: Gartner predicts an increase of only 1.9 percent in global desktop sales for this year, compared with an estimated 31.4 percent gain in notebooks.

What gives? For one, developing countries — where demand for computers is rising at a rapid clip to begin with — are adopting notebooks more quickly than desktops, says Gartner analyst Leslie Fiering. Many businesses are also using more notebooks, having replaced existing desktop systems, she says. For home users, it often boils down to ease of use. "There's the issue of just being able to close the lid and put it away, or put it in another room," Fiering says.

More features, more money

As far as power goes, these laptops are equal to, if not better than, many desktops. Recent entries from VoodooPC and Alienware, recently acquired by Dell, have even strapped in two of Nvidia's newest mobile graphics cards side-by-side for playing the latest graphics-intensive games or the most demanding of applications.

BusinessWeek Online

Computers go to college

Laptops under $850

A guide to PC security products

See the luggable laptops

Advice to students: Pack a Mac

As one would expect, these luggables cost more than their desktop equivalents. Most of the desktop-replacement laptops are the flagship portables from their respective companies. VoodooPC's 19-inch, dual-video-card setup starts at a little under $5,000. Buyers will need to make room in their budget as well as on their desk for these monsters. Some power-hungry portables don't boast long battery life, either.

If consumers replace their desktop with one of these laptops, they may need a more portable computing option if they plan to do a lot of commuting. While still more convenient than transporting a desktop rig, carrying a close-to-20-pound notebook computer, even with a handle, to work or anywhere else could become tiresome if performed daily.

Limited capacity to customize

The ideal partner for a desktop-replacement system may actually be another in-between portable like Samsung's Q1, one of the so-called Ultramobile PCs. This would give owners of the heavier, pseudoportable notebooks a way to stay wired one way or another, while still being able to transport the less-portable laptop when necessary. Owning both kinds of portables would prove a costly option, however.

For now, desktops still win out over notebooks in the area of customizability. Adding 120GB hard drives or a next-gen DVD drive to a PC tower is no problem. The same can be done with a laptop, but it's not as easy.

Desktops hold a firm place in most PC enthusiasts' hearts, and their lower price means they won't be fading away anytime soon. But for those willing to make a few trade-offs and plunk down considerably more cash, the luggable laptop has legs.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13425608/

Intel Release Shots Of Ultra Thin Metro Laptop

<img $r="true" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Dm4hZMKvb08/Ssef11Bj4bI/AAAAAAAAABc/QQB8sXnRtyA/s320/Metro-703955.jpg" />

Intel have released photos of their new 0.7" thick, 2.2 pound (1kg) Metro Laptop featuring an external e-ink display. Toshiba never disappoints us. One of the latest laptops from Toshiba's Digital Products Division, the Toshiba Tecra A6-S513, continues this tradition.

The Toshiba A6 is mainly targeted at small-to-medium businesses. Toshiba offers a recommended configuration (detailed below), but you can customize the processor, system memory size, hard drive capacity, and display technology to best meet your needs.

Toshiba Tecra A6-S513 recommended configuration:

•Intel Core Solo Processor T1300 (1.66GHz, 2MB L2, 667MHz FSB)

•Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset

•Microsoft Windows XP Professional

•512MB PC4200 DDR2 533MHz SDRAM (512MBx1) (max 4096 MB)

•14.1" Diagonal Widescreen XGA TruBrite display (1280x768)

•Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 with 8MB-128MB dynamically allocated shared graphics memory

•60GB HDD (5400rpm, Serial-ATA)

•CD-RW/DVD-ROM Multifunction drive

•Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG (802.11a/b/g), 10/100/1000 Base-TX Ethernet, Fast Infrared (4Mbps) port, Toshiba V.92 software modem

•5-in-1 Bridge Media Adapter, Video: RGB monitor port, S-Video port, Audio: microphone jack, headphone jack, Data: i.LINK(TM) IEEE-1394, 4-USB (v.2.0), 1-PC Card slot, RJ-45 LAN port, RJ-11 modem port and 2 40-pin docking port

•6-cell Lithium Ion battery (4000mAh)

Download the complete product specification via this PDF.

A highlight of the A6 is the Toshiba EasyGuard technology - a series of hardware and software enhancements to help boost mobile security, system integrity, network connectivity and overall ease of use. EasyGuard technology consists of four elements: Protect & Fix, Secure, Connect and Optimize. You can read about these features in detail in the extended entry. Don't miss reading it though.
You can order the Toshiba Tecra A6-S513 through the product's website given below. The recommended configuration carries a price tag of US$1149. It comes with a standard one-year limited warranty. I like it!

http://www.mobilewhack.com/reviews/toshiba_tecra_a6-s513_laptop.html

SavRow Axen X-1 Laptop Bespoke Technology

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; And it looks like the company took these updates seriously as well, changing quite a bit on these laptops which are intended for the business crowd.

Though most definitely designed for business folk, these laptops have gained a slight consumer bent with the redesign. The laptops that received a refresh include the 13.3-inch Vostro 1320, the 15.4-inch Vostro 1520 and the 17-inch Vostro 1720. All of these models now come with videoconferencing software and webcam software, though you’ll need to buy the webcam and mic extra.
A further update is the SSD option. You can select to have a SSD installed rather than a standard hard drive, or you can have an encrypted HDD installed that features Wave Systems software. Another option is a fingerprint reader. Every one now has this personalized and portable version of computer. Laptops have been immensely popular and useful under its own merits. So, before you spend a hefty amount to buy yourself this ultimate gadget, look for the criteria you should think over before buying this piece of gizmo.

1. Decide if you really need a laptop

Though laptop prices have dramatically fallen over time, they still pricey than the desktop computers if you consider same configuration. If you are going to use your computer in your home, the desktop is the best choice. Also, laptops have a personal feel. So if there are many persons going to use the computer, desktop would be a better choice. Laptop is better if you need to consider the portability matters.

2. Size, weight and portability Consideration

Laptops can further divided into categories such as Netbook, ultra-portable, thin-and-light, mainstream and desktop replacements. As you can see in the picture, they differ in size, weight and portability measures. If you want to use your laptop for simple tasks such as internet access and word processing tasks, netbooks should be your choice. Ultra-portables are meant for business people on the go. If you are going to use your laptop for general purpose use, there are mainstream laptops. The thin-and-portables provide a good balance between the ultra-portables and the mainstream laptops. The desktop replacements, as the name suggests, is needed if you think that your desktop computer is eating too much space in your desk.

http://gadgetophilia.com/top-5-things-to-consider-before-buying-a-laptop/#more-3423

Toshiba Tecra M10 and Tecra A10 Business Laptops

Toshiba is jumping on the Centrino 2 bandwagon with the release of the new Toshiba Tecra M10 laptop and Tecra A10 laptop.
